Get Out of Your Comfort Zone
I remember reading that if we are comfortable, we are probably not growing. I found a quote by Brian Tracy, a leading authority on the development of human potential, which sums this up:
Comfort Zone
Move out of your comfort zone. You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try something new. This is a life changing quote for me. I remember times that I have felt miserable, yet somehow comfortable. I know that may sound impossible, but I have been there. Sometimes if you feel beaten down by life, the energy may not be there to pick yourself up. There lies the comfortable, miserable feeling. It is too difficult to pick yourself up, you may say to yourself. At some point or another, if we are lucky enough to be awakened by some awe-inspiring epiphany, we start to see a different potential in front of us.
I realized that I was not growing as a person. I was stagnant. I needed to get serious with what I wanted out of life, and realize my true potential. I needed to get uncomfortable! It’s kind of like working out—at first it is very uncomfortable. Just the habit of going to the gym or working out at home is uncomfortable. But you must work through this awkward feeling and get to where it is a normal part of your life.
Sometimes you will be absolutely terrified of starting something new! For example, it is terrifying for some people to start a challenging job, start a business, or start a family. But if you know it is something that should be in your future, just do it! Like a baby learning how to walk, but stumbling along the way, keep pushing through the uneasiness and the falls—you will eventually walk. Then you will run. Keep pushing, and never give up. Find that inspiration that clicks with you—actively seek it out and keep seeking it out. Success in any area of life often comes out of being uncomfortable.
